Cape May Wineries: All Seven on the Wine Trail
Most guides name four. The Cape May Wine Trail has seven members, and the two that get dropped from nearly every list — Natali Vineyards and G&W Winery — are real wineries with real tasting rooms, not footnotes.
Here's the other thing nobody leads with: not one of the seven is walkable from Beach Avenue. Sort out the driving first. Then think about the wine.
What to settle before you plan a tasting day
- There are seven, not four.
- Cape May Winery & Vineyard, Willow Creek, Turdo, Hawk Haven, Jessie Creek, Natali Vineyards and G&W Winery. If a list you’re reading stops at five, it’s missing two.
- None of them are in Cape May City.
- They’re spread across West Cape May, North Cape May, Rio Grande and Cape May Court House. You need a car or a designated driver — there is no walk-out-of-your-B&B version of this day.
- Willow Creek is the closest by a long way.
- 168 Stevens Street, West Cape May, and it’s the only Napa-style winery on Cape Island. It’s the one to pick if you’ve got a single afternoon and no appetite for a drive.
- One winery wants a reservation.
- Willow Creek strongly encourages them, and last seating is 7:30pm even though the doors stay open until 9pm. Don’t roll up at 8:15 expecting a table.
- The MAC trolley is a beer trail, not a wine trail.
- Cape May Beer Trails is 21+ and hits four breweries plus lunch. There’s no winery equivalent, so wine days need a driver.
- Call Turdo before you go.
- Open for summer 2026, six days a week, noon to 5pm, closed Wednesdays — but the property is actively for sale, which is exactly when hours change without a website update.

The Cape May Peninsula AVA, and why it changed things
In May 2018, the Cape May Peninsula became New Jersey’s fourth American Viticultural Area. That’s not marketing language — an AVA is a federally recognized grape-growing region, with boundaries drawn around soil and climate rather than county lines, and a winery can only put the name on a label if the fruit genuinely comes from inside it.
The case for the designation is the water. Delaware Bay on one side, the Atlantic on the other, and a peninsula that narrow doesn’t get extreme temperatures. Spring warms slowly. Fall holds on. Frost arrives later here than it does inland.
Standing in a tasting room, it means one useful thing: ask what’s estate-grown. The people pouring will happily tell you which bottles prove the argument, and that conversation is the point of driving out here instead of buying a case at home.

The seven, one at a time
Willow Creek Winery & Farm — West Cape May
168 Stevens Street, West Cape May. Mon–Thu 12–9pm, Fri–Sun 11:30am–9pm, last seating 7:30pm.
The closest winery to town and the only one on Cape Island built to feel like a California day out — grounds you can wander, a working farm around the vines, a patio that’s genuinely pet friendly. Reservations are strongly encouraged; in July and August treat that as a rule.
Two practical notes. Those 9pm closes are the latest of any winery here, which makes Willow Creek the only one that works after dinner. And the 7:30pm last seating is the number people misread — arrive by 7:15.
Stevens Street is also where Beach Plum Farm’s cottages sit, so this end of West Cape May is worth an afternoon on its own.
Cape May Winery & Vineyard — North Cape May
711 Townbank Road, Cape May 08204. Sun 10:30am–5pm, Mon–Tue 12–6pm, Wed 12–5pm, Thu 12–6pm, Fri 12–8pm, Sat 12–6pm.
The fullest published schedule of the seven, and the only one serving a Sunday brunch, 10:30am–2pm, running through Labor Day. If you want a winery to anchor a Sunday rather than squeeze into a Saturday afternoon, this is the answer.
Friday is the late night — open until 8pm — and Wednesday is the short day at 5pm. Townbank Road is quiet and residential, so trust the address rather than looking for highway signage.
Turdo Vineyards & Winery — North Cape May
3911 Bayshore Road, North Cape May. Six days a week, 12–5pm, closed Wednesdays.
A small, Italian-varietal-minded family operation, and the one carrying an asterisk: the property is actively for sale. It’s open for summer 2026, but a winery mid-sale is a winery whose hours can move fast. Phone before you point the car at it.
Worth knowing if you’re combining trips: Turdo and Gusto Brewing are both on Bayshore Road in North Cape May.
Hawk Haven Vineyard & Winery — Rio Grande
600 South Railroad Avenue, Rio Grande 08242.
Frequently written up as being in ‘Green Creek’; the mailing address is Rio Grande. If you’ve searched Hawk Haven and got two towns, that’s why. A farm-family winery, and the natural first stop on any Rio Grande leg.
G&W Winery — Rio Grande
1034 Route 47 South, Rio Grande 08242.
One of the two Wine Trail members that vanish from most Cape May winery lists. It sits directly on Route 47 South, which is the road you’re already on if you’re driving up from the ferry side of the peninsula, so adding it costs almost nothing in detour.
Natali Vineyards — Cape May Court House
221 N. Delsea Drive, Cape May Court House 08210.
The other regularly omitted member, and it’s omitted for a dull reason: writers stop at the county’s southern end and call the list finished. If you’re driving in from the Parkway rather than out from your rental, Natali is the first winery you pass, not the last.
Jessie Creek Winery — Cape May Court House

A boutique winery that also runs an inn, which makes it the only one of the seven where ‘and then we stayed the night’ is on the table. Same road as Natali — both on North Delsea Drive — so the two pair into one stop.
Nobody is walking to these

A tasting route that actually works
Don’t try to do seven in a day. Three is a good day. Four is a long one. Five is a story you’ll tell badly.
Willow Creek, 168 Stevens Street
Friday through Sunday it opens at 11:30am, the earliest start on this route. Walk the grounds before the afternoon fills up. Eat something here.
Turdo, on Bayshore Road
Noon to 5pm, closed Wednesdays, and phone ahead. Small room, short visit, different enough from Willow Creek to keep your palate interested.
Cape May Winery & Vineyard, 711 Townbank Road
Closing depends on the day — 5pm Wednesday and Sunday, 6pm most others, 8pm Friday — so check before you commit to a leisurely third stop.
Second day
Run the northern half. Hawk Haven on South Railroad Avenue and G&W on Route 47 South cover Rio Grande; Natali and Jessie Creek, both on North Delsea Drive, finish the trail. That’s the half almost no visitor sees.
Sunday variant
Brunch at Cape May Winery & Vineyard at 10:30am, then Turdo, then finish at Willow Creek — open until 9pm and closest to home.

When to go
September and early October is our pick. Harvest is happening around you, the rooms aren’t full, and the weather holds. The first week of September in particular is the best week of the year in Cape May, wine included.
July and August work, but expect company — and expect to want a reservation at Willow Creek.
Winter and early spring are the quiet reward and the highest risk. Hours shrink, some rooms go weekend-only, and a Tuesday in February is exactly when a listed schedule turns out to be last year’s. Call every time.

Are any Cape May wineries walkable from downtown?
No. Not one of the seven sits inside Cape May City limits, and the free city shuttle — which runs 4pm to 10pm — doesn’t reach them. You’ll need a car, a designated driver, a rideshare or a chartered van.

What is the Cape May Peninsula AVA?
It’s a federally recognized American Viticultural Area — a grape-growing region defined by soil and climate rather than political boundaries — designated in May 2018. It was New Jersey’s fourth AVA.
The peninsula’s narrow shape, with Delaware Bay on one side and the Atlantic on the other, moderates temperatures and pushes frost later in the season. Ask what’s estate-grown when you’re tasting; that’s where the difference shows.
Is there a wine trolley or wine tour bus in Cape May?
Not that we can verify. Cape May MAC runs a Cape May Beer Trails trolley — 21+, four breweries plus lunch, departing the Ocean Street Trolley Stop — but there’s no equivalent scheduled winery tour. Wine days need a designated driver or a private charter.
Can I visit all seven wineries in one day?
You can, technically. You shouldn’t. They’re spread across four communities from West Cape May up to Cape May Court House, and most tasting rooms close between 5pm and 6pm.
Three wineries is a comfortable day. We’d do Willow Creek, Turdo and Cape May Winery & Vineyard on day one, then the Rio Grande and Cape May Court House four on a second trip.
Do I need a reservation at a Cape May winery?
At Willow Creek, yes — reservations are strongly encouraged and last seating is 7:30pm. For the others, walk-ins are the norm, but summer weekends fill and off-season hours shift.
Our standing advice for every winery on this page: call the same morning. And call Turdo Vineyards specifically, because the property is currently for sale even though it’s operating this season.
